Sora Videos API shut down 24 Sep 2026
Official help note and API deprecations: consumer Sora already closed; Videos API and sora-2 / sora-2-pro shut on 24 Sep 2026 with no named replacement. Check exports on OpenAI before you plan around it.
What changed
OpenAI has shut Sora down in two stages. The web and app versions went on 26 April 2026 and the Sora API followed on 24 September 2026. Once any final export window has passed, OpenAI says it'll delete the data tied to your Sora use for good.
Who it's for
Anyone who made clips in Sora, and anyone whose pipeline called the Sora API. If you built a tool around it, that route has closed.
What it means for a cut
Get your files out now. OpenAI's help note sends you to sora.chatgpt.com/sunset, where an Export button starts the job and an email tells you when it's ready. Anything you might want for a re-edit or a new version needs saving before the deletion, and the note doesn't name a replacement. Leftover ChatGPT or Sora credits can still be spent on Codex.
